Manastirea Bucium

The Bucium Monastery

This monastery is situated at the foothill of the Fagaras Mountains, in a beautiful area, in the heart of nature, only 3 kilometers away from the Bucium village.

It was built in 1992 on the location of the old monastery that is told it was destroyed by the Empress Maria Tereza in 1761. The story says that the church was built after the revelation of a local, called Mos Ilie, and the Sandru familly gave all her money for this construction. It is a monk church and is celebrated on 6 august, on the holiday "Schimbarea la faţă".

The Radocea Museum

The museum houses the most diverse collection of traditional costumes from all over the country and even the world. It is located in a traditional house of the 19th century, the house being itself representative for our traditional architecture. Because of the fabulous gardens, the traditional bread ovens or the traditional tools which were used for processing linen, the museum looks like a genuine peasant household. Among this, at the Radocea Museum you will find a traditional fabric collection and sculpted or painted traditional furniture.

The water mill from Ohaba

The wheel of the oldest mill from the Fagaras Country it rotates since 135 years ago. The flour made here has a special taste because each grain is crushed by rocks with a low speed in comparison to the electrically driven mills. This is the only water mill that is functioning with the old installation, made a long time ago by peasants. Mrs. Virginia Pop is the heiress of the Mill of Luck, as the villagers named it, as she is the fourth generation to take care of it.

The secret of the mill are the french flints brought from Lyon. It is the most durable stone, its strength being recognized in all Europe. While visiting the mill you will find yourself in a fairytale that happened a century and a half ago. The same ancient spirit can be found at the guesthouse right next to the mill, opened for tourists. Rooms are clean, decorated in traditional style with straw mattresses and wood burning stoves.

Therapeutic mud from Perşani

The mineral water springs from this region are famous in Romania. We are talking about

the only waters with chloride, bicarbonate, sodium and calcium from Persani. Great

therapeutic properties has also the mud from this region which is recommended for the

treatment of the rheumatic diseases. You can find this therapeutic mud right in the

Persani town, somewhere between Brasov and Fagaras and you can get there by car or

train.

Biserica Sf Arangheli - Persani

The Saints Archangels Church from Persani

This church is a historical monument and it was built in 1704. It is orthodox and it is located in Persani from Sinca at only 40 kilometers away from Brasov.

Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului - Ohaba

The Adormirea Maicii Domnului Church from Ohaba

The old stone church, silent witness of history, is located on the cemetery. It is assumed that it was built sometime between 1769 and 1773. It looks a lot like the Şercăiţa church and it was built in stages: first the altar, then the nave with no belfry. After that, somewhere in 1823, the porch and the tower were finalized.

The church was built of bricks and green sand stone that was brought from the quarry from Persani that belonged to the Bruckenthal Baron. The pavement is made of stone and the nave of brick. Also, the interior painting is beautiful and it seems to be done by the same hand that painted the Şercăiţa church during the Archpriest Gheorghe from Ohaba, a house painter named Teodor.

Since 1943, a new church was built in Ohaba. It had the same name but was much bigger than the old one.

Dacian settlement from Şinca Veche

At 50 km from Brasov, on the way to Sibiu, at Baile Persani left to Sinca Veche village, a mountain road opens. No more than one hundred meters away, the road reaches the Plesu Hill. This place can show you the treasures of Sinca Veche: stone craved chruches, the dacian settlement, the healer spring, the ecological park and the New Monastery of Saint Nectarie.

The Dacian settlement from Sinca Veche appeared between the 3rd and the 4th century before Christ and it covers an area of one hectare. This habitation lies on the south of the village, approximately 1 kilometer away, on the right of the Cretul river on the Plesu Hill. It was here where six ancient dacian houses were found. And inside them there were a lot of coal pieces, burnt umber pieces, stones, bowls, 10 miniatural coffee cups, whole or broken, and a copper foil. Also, another 13 huts (holes) were found burrowed 50 meters underground.

There is a supposition that the civil dacian settlement ended in 106 after Christ when the roman conquest occurred. This is because, 4 Roman Imperial coins, that are currently in the Brukenthal Museum from Sibiu, came from that region.

The Ursitelor Temple from Şinca Veche

The Sinca Veche cave is situated under the Plesu hill, a few tens of meters out of town. Over the years, the cave had different names like The Ursitelor Temple or The Monastery craved in stone. And each of these names has a separate legend. The mistery of the cave is given by the great architecture, the trappings on the wals and the two altars. Here you can see the Star of David and in its center the Ying and Yang symbol. What is interesting is that in the middle room, there is a square like a recess. If you sit in the middle of the square and I look toward the tower, you can see the Yin-Yang sign, like it was half carved in stone and the other half is givenn by the tower excavation, where light enters.

Even though the age of the cave is not known, in our days the temple is considered a historical monument. And for this reason, a foundation started to see about the cavern's conservation.
