Piramidele de la Sona

The Pyramids from Șona

On the hills that surround Sona, one can find several hammocks with a height of 20-30 meters, which the locals call "guruieți".

The Pyramids from Șona started several debates about their origins, but also about some strange phenomenons that take place in the area. The villagers say that the water placed at a certain height acquires curative properties and that the meat doesn't rotten.

There are eight hammocks placed in two parallel lines on a hill in the vicinity of the village. The elders tell that they emerged long time ago, when a giant has dusted his shoes after passing the river Olt. Another story tells that they were built by the Turks, as they throwed behind the home ground that they brought with them in their turbans.

The researchers have found similarities with the cairns in which the Celt and Scythian heads were buried, one of the reasons being that these peoples crossed Romania. The archeologists found in that area ceramics from the Late Bronze Age and Hallstat Time.

Andrei Vartic, a researcher from Bessarabia, thinks that the "guruietii" are Dacian vestiges. He claims that there are four similar pyramids near Hălmeag and Bunești, and if you draw lines between the places where there are these kind of hammocks and the mountain Omu, the result is a right angle traingle with angles of 60 and 30 degrees. Another bigger triangle, would be formed between the Dacian citadels Racoș and Sarmisegetuza and the mountain Omu.
